Herbert’s HAT, Chapter 1, Section 4,

HBD Cover Small

(World of Imagination Series, Book 1 of 6)

Timmy stared at himself in the mirror. Having no idea what to make of it all. His mind wasn’t with him at the moment. This is really cool…and weird, he thought while not seeing his reflection at all. “I’m—I’m invisible!” he shouted as loudly as he could, his mind only now kicking into high gear. Excited about this new happening, he didn’t think twice while running from his closet. He got as far as the middle of the room and ran right into something.

The something was an odd looking boy who fell backward then stared wildly at Timmy while getting up off the floor.

“What’s going on?” Timmy shouted.

“Well, for one thing, no one except for me can hear you shouting,” the young boy told him “So, speak normally and I’ll know what you’re saying.”

“Who—are you? What are you doing in my room?”

“Don’t you recognize me?” the kid asked and smiled as nicely as he could, looking far weirder than what he probably imagined himself to look.

“I really don’t know what you’re talking about! You’d better get out of my room and our apartment. If not—then I’ll call my parents!”

“Go right ahead. I’ll wait here, because it could take some time,” the boy told him while grinning widely. “It’s me Herbert…you idiot!”

“Well, whoever you are, you’d better keep it down or my parents will hear—” Then, Timmy heard his parent’s door open down the hall.

The weird boy grabbed the hat and tried to pull it off—no such luck as it was truly stuck to Timmy’s head.

“Hey dummy…do you seriously think I didn’t try? Do you really think it would work if you pulled my head off my shoulders? If either one of my parents walk into my room and find I’m not here, they’ll call the National Guard, the Police, the FBI and everyone else who could help! They’d lock you away for eternity!” Timmy breathed deeply, feeling as if he might hyperventilate at any second. “You—you need to get into—my bed. Just answer any question either of them might ask. We need to buy some time.”

“I’m not entirely inclined to help in this situation.”

Timmy shook his head in disgust and shoved him into the bed.
